Ants, and why they find your kitchen
Black garden ants are the most common call we get in early summer. A foraging worker finds a food source, lays a pheromone trail back, and within a day the rest of the colony is following it. That is why the line appears so suddenly and why wiping up the ants without breaking the trail achieves so little.
The nest is usually outdoors, under a patio slab, path or wall footing. Treating the trail alone does not resolve it, which is why an infestation that keeps coming back needs the nest dealt with.
Bed bugs need a different approach entirely
Bed bugs are the one insect where a partial treatment reliably makes things worse, because disturbance spreads them into adjoining rooms. They travel in luggage and second-hand furniture rather than being a sign of an unclean home, and we treat them discreetly for that reason.
Treatment involves preparation on your side and usually more than one visit. We will talk you through exactly what to do before we come, because how well the room is prepared makes a real difference to whether it works first time.
Fleas, flies and cockroaches
Fleas usually arrive with a pet but persist in carpets and soft furnishings long after the animal has been treated, because the pupal stage is resistant to almost everything and waits for vibration before hatching.
Cluster flies are a seasonal problem in older Bedfordshire properties, gathering in lofts to overwinter. Cockroaches are less common domestically but serious in commercial kitchens, where they need dealing with quickly and properly documented.

Can you treat bed bugs discreetly?
Yes. We attend in unmarked fashion where you ask us to and we do not discuss the job with anyone but you. Bed bugs are about travel and second-hand furniture, not cleanliness, and we treat them on that basis.
How long do ant treatments last?
If the nest is treated rather than just the trail, a single treatment usually holds for the season. Repeat problems in the same spot each year normally mean the nest is somewhere structural, like under a patio.
Do I need to leave the house during treatment?
It depends on the treatment. For most insect work you can return after a short period, and we will tell you exactly how long and what to do before we start. Bed bug work needs more preparation than most.
